Called, Gifted and Sent
Called, Gifted and Sent
Reynaldo R. Capili, SSS
An irresistible call gathers us five - Jose Arnel,
Gregorio Jr., Reynaldo, Dante and Victoriano, in Sta. Cruz Parish Convent, Sta. Cruz, Manila
where the blue car with smiling driver awaits us, that was April 27, 1988. We continue listening to the call, and like
St. Paul on his way to Damascus, we were blinded by His light and we asked “Who
are you, sir?” The voice, of the one who calls, said, “I am Jesus, the
Nazarean, whom you do not know?” we
replied, “Then, reveal yourself to us,
Lord.” A reciprocal love story unfolds before us, as “…we welcome the Lord Jesus in His Eucharistic presence…,” (Rule of
Life #3) on that faithful morning of May first, nineteen ninety.
Twenty-five years ago, is not so distant a time, but
ever so fresh and invigorating to reminisce, especially if it is something dear
to us, our consecration to God and his
people. So this silver anniversary of our religious profession is a kind of
being called, being gifted and being sent. We are gifted with a community, where all truly love one
another (ROL #5); we become witnesses
of Christ by making ourselves servants of our brothers (ROL#7); though we differ in our persons, capabilities,
duties and circumstances, this diversity manifests the wealth of the gifts of
the one Spirit (ROL#8). We are gifted with a calling to live as a Eucharistic community, so as to give a more explicit witness to the life
of Christ which springs from the
Eucharist (ROL#21).
Nourished
by Christ, who gives himself to us totally in the Eucharist,
we are sent, and we express, in our form
of life, the gift of ourselves as it is lived and taught by our holy Founder,
Saint Peter Julian Eymard (ROL#15). Oh, what a journey! Oh, what a life!
